Measles Outbreak in Mexico
The North America Measles Outbreak is not showing any signs of slowing down.
Measles outbreaks in Texas, Canada, and Europe are getting more attention, but it’s time folks became more aware of what’s going on in Mexico.

They have an outbreak that continues to grow larger and larger, centered in one of Mexico’s largest Mennonite communities.

Folks should also be aware of how the measles outbreak in Mexico started.
It spread from the big measles outbreak in west Texas!
“Mexico’s current outbreak began in March. Officials traced it to an 8-year-old unvaccinated Mennonite boy who visited relatives in Seminole, Texas — at the center of the U.S. outbreak.”

So in addition to the 709 measles cases in 29 Texas counties, including 467 children, 92 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths, plus all the cases in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas, you can add over 1,000 cases in Mexico to the Texas outbreak total.

And just how big has the measles outbreak in Mexico gotten already?

In the state of Chihuahua alone, in northwestern Mexico, there have been over 1,000 cases of measles and one death, an unvaccinated 31-year-old man.

An outbreak that has led to calls for vaccinations and vaccine campaigns to help stop the outbreak.
“The United States and Canada are experiencing one of their worst measles outbreaks in years, while the virus has also crossed to neighbouring Mexico.
A total of 2,500 cases and four deaths have been reported in the outbreaks across the three countries. Vaccine hesitancy has been blamed.”
Why is measles spreading in Canada, Mexico and the US?
Although some public officials are obviously doing a better job than others of getting the word out to get people in their communities vaccinated…
So what’s next?
Unfortunately, it is likely that we can expect more measles. There are few signs that enough folks are getting vaccinated and protected to help stop these outbreaks.
And we will ultimately see that measles will once again become endemic in North America.
What does that mean?
Mostly, it means that you can more often and more easily expect to be exposed to someone with measles.
You won’t have to go out of your way and travel out of the country or visit an area where there is already an outbreak. A trip to the grocery store, a ride on a train, or simply going to school will eventually get you exposed to someone with measles. And that is very bad news for folks whose vaccine didn’t work, are too young to be vaccinated, or have a true medical exemption for vaccines.

That is, unless, of course, we can stop these outbreaks now.
