Why do some people think that over 490,000 children have been paralyzed by the Gates Foundation polio vaccine?

The usual suspects…
Propaganda About Children Paralyzed and the Gates Foundation Polio Vaccine
Let’s start by saying that the polio vaccine has saved millions of lives.
And while vaccine derived polio is a real thing, that is not what anti-vaccine influencers are talking about when they make claims like “over 490,000 children paralyzed by the Gates Foundation polio vaccine.”
“The claims appear to trace back to one point made in a lengthy April 7 Instagram post by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nephew of former US president John F. Kennedy and a leader of the World Mercury Project, which advocates against mandatory vaccination.”
Gates Foundation targeted with misleading claims about India polio vaccine campaign
Not surprisingly, this bit of misinformation originated from now Secretary RFK Jr!

In a post in which RFK Jr said some kids were mandated to get 50 polio vaccines before they were five years old!
A post with references that don’t support his claim…
“In 2007, more than 2.3 billion doses of OPV were administered to more than 400 million children, during 164 SIAs in 27 countries.“
Global Polio Eradication Initiative Partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative Financial resource requirements 2008 - 2012 as of May 2008
But do state that most kids were getting just over 5 doses, as they always have.
And yes, RFK Jr did blame Bill Gates and the polio vaccine for paralyzing 490,000 children.
A claim that is also not true.
What about the Indian doctors that blame Gates?
“Indian doctors blame the Gates campaign for a devastating non-polio acute flaccid paralysis (NPAFP) epidemic that paralyzed 490,000 children beyond expected rates between 2000 and 2017.”
Gates’ Globalist Vaccine Agenda: A Win-Win for Pharma and Mandatory Vaccination
RFK Jr is talking about a study in which researchers believe they found a correlation between non-polio acute flaccid paralysis (NPAFP) and the frequency of pulse polio administration. These are nationwide immunization campaigns that vaccinate all children under age five to help control polio.
A study which suggests that the OPV vaccine used in India was paralyzing just over 28,000 children each year in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
A monovalent polio vaccine that the authors claim is five times more potent than other polio vaccines.
“It has been reported that in 2005 there was a sharp increase in the national NPAFP rate, which coincided with the introduction of a high-potency monovalent vaccine that contained 5 times the number of Type 1 viruses, compared to that contained in the previously used vaccine.”
Correlation between Non-Polio Acute Flaccid Paralysis Rates with Pulse Polio Frequency in India
Surprisingly, even that isn’t true though.
“The absence of interference from types 2 and 3, particularly type 2, seems to be the reason for the three-fold greater efficacy per dose of mOPV1 against paralysis from type 1 wild poliovirus compared with trivalent vaccine in northern India.”
Protective efficacy of a monovalent oral type 1 poliovirus vaccine – Authors' reply
While the monovalent vaccine works better, it is not because it is more potent.
In 2005, the government of India introduced the use of monovalent oral polio vaccine type 1 (mOPV1), which has higher efficacy against WPV1 than does trivalent oral polio vaccine (tOPV) (1--3), in supplementary immunization activities.* After a multistate WPV1 outbreak in 2006, preferential use of mOPV1 was accelerated and WPV1 cases decreased from 83† in 2007 to 18 during January--May 2009. A resurgence of WPV3 cases in Uttar Pradesh in 2007 led to an outbreak in Bihar. SIAs using monovalent type 3 OPV (mOPV3) were expanded in 2007 (2), and the number of WPV3 cases declined from 794 in 2007 to 41 during January--May 2009.

And it wasn’t even the only polio vaccine that was used.
“This large increase in NP-AFP cases, which represent AFP cases caused by agents other than poliovirus, probably reflects the excellent implementation of the expanded definition of AFP and highly sensitive surveillance and detection methods used by NPSP in India from 2005 onwards, in contrast to the other polio-endemic countries, i.e., Pakistan, Nigeria, and Afghanistan, where the expanded AFP surveillance is not in place (1–5). The large increase in the NP-AFP rate from 1.45 and 1.97 per 100,000 children during 1998–2003 to 16.20 in 2011 (3–5) further reflects the excellent operational performance of the expanded AFP surveillance in India.…”
Antigenic Diversity of Enteroviruses Associated with Nonpolio Acute Flaccid Paralysis, India, 2007–2009
A study which is disputed by other Indian doctors.
“When comparing the data from states such as Delhi, Karnataka and Kerala, as per the data sheet provided by the authors, one fails to see the correlation observed by the authors for these states. Even the southern and northern parts of states such as Karnataka, with the same frequency of pulse polio campaigns, have widely variable non-polio AFP rates.”

Convinced yet?
“The postmarketing surveillance of mOPV1 that was implemented as part of its licensing has not detected any increase in the proportion of AFP cases with VAPP in areas where this vaccine has been used.”
Protective efficacy of a monovalent oral type 1 poliovirus vaccine – Authors' reply
Would you be if you knew that:
The increase in AFP cases in this region of India began before they started using the mOPV1 vaccine. In fact, it nearly doubled between 2001 and 2004 and they didn’t start using this vaccine until 2005!
The increase in AFP cases occurred across much of India, including states where mOPV1 wasn’t even used
The increase in AFP cases didn’t occur in some Indian states where mOPV1 was used
The mOPV1 vaccine was used in many other countries and they didn’t find an increase in AFP cases
How about if you knew that thousands of kids used to become paralyzed in India each and every day because of polio in the pre-vaccine era?
And that this kind of propaganda helps inch us back to a time when your unvaccinated child can once again get paralyzed with polio!
Propaganda that has been laundered by anti-vaccine influencers for years now in anti-vaccine movies like Plandemic and Shots, anti-vaccine books, like Dissolving Illusions and Turtles All The Way Down, and their websites and social media accounts.
Propaganda that is clearly not true.
