That Buried CDC Report On Your Risk of Catching Measles
Do you know your risk of catching measles?
Did you know that the CDC didn’t release a report on your risk of catching measles? In this bizarro world with Bobby Kennedy as Secretary of HHS, you probably aren’t surprised, but still…
That Buried CDC Report On Your Risk of Catching Measles
According to reporting by ProPublica:
“Leaders at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ordered staff this week not to release their experts’ assessment that found the risk of catching measles is high in areas near outbreaks where vaccination rates are lagging…”

In addition to telling folks that their risk of catching measles was high near outbreaks, they would have “emphasized the importance of vaccinating people against the highly contagious and potentially deadly disease.”
So why not release the report?
“A CDC spokesperson told ProPublica in a written statement that the agency decided against releasing the assessment ‘because it does not say anything that the public doesn’t already know.’”

They didn’t release the report because they think people already know that they are at risk to get measles, and “the decision to vaccinate is a personal one.”
A personal decision that more and more is being determined by misinformation and propaganda people are getting from anti-vaccine influencers, which now include the folks who head our public health systems!
Still, the CDC knows that:
“the risk of catching measles is high in areas near outbreaks where vaccination rates are lagging”
vaccines are “the best way to protect against measles”
And they think you already know that.
Do you?
Do you live in an area near outbreaks or with poor vaccination rates?
Check your local school district’s vaccination rates to know the real risk for your community.
Do you live in an area where kids have a large rate of non-medical exemptions to school vaccination laws?

Remember, as vaccination rates fall and non-medical exemptions rise, your risk of a large outbreak greatly increases. And in a large outbreak that becomes hard to control, your risk of running into someone while they are contagious with measles somewhere in the community goes up too.
So that leaves one more question — are you up-to-date on your measles vaccinations?
