When Presidents Told Parents to Vaccinate Their Kids...
A Presidential Proclamation to Get Your Kids Vaccinate
Do you remember when our Presidents used to tell parents to vaccinate and protect their kids?
A Presidential Proclamation to Get Your Kids Vaccinate
While most of our presidents have supported vaccines, some have done better jobs than others.
Not surprisingly, Franklin D Roosevelt did a great job!
In 1942, he used his proclamation for Child Health Day to urge parents to get their kids vaccinated and protected.
Tragically, while a diphtheria vaccine was available at this time, kids were still getting and dying with diphtheria. Increased vaccination rates and a combined DPT vaccine would soon help to get diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus under better control.
And of course, thanks to ring quarantine procedures and vaccination, smallpox was soon eradicated!
Roosevelt’s vaccine proclamation is a great reminder that the great majority of US presidents have been great vaccine advocates.
